Hilmarj Torgrim’s writing journey began long before her name ever appeared on a book cover. At just fourteen years old, she enrolled in a creative writing class at her local community college, stepping into a room filled with adults twice her age and refusing to be intimidated. While other teenagers were navigating typical distractions, she was learning structure, voice, and the power of a well-formed sentence. That class lit something fierce and lasting in her. What began as youthful curiosity quickly became obsession, discipline, and calling. Even then, she was drawn to stories rooted in history, gravitating toward historically dramatic events and larger-than-life figures, as if she already knew the path she would one day follow with a passion.
